Frequently Asked Rewiring Questions…

Does My House Need Rewiring?

There are no hard and fast rules but as a guide, if a property is over 30 years old  (or was built before 1984) and has not had its wiring updated it will most likely need rewiring in part or in whole to bring it up to modern standards.

Signs that you may need to rewire your home include circuit breakers that trip regularly, damaged or exposed wiring, older cables that are fabric, plastic or lead-coated (modern wiring use PVCu coated grey or white cables with twin earths) and a ‘non-functional earth’, but this cannot be visibly detected! All these and more can show your property needs a rewire.

What's involved in a rewire?

A rewire is in the name, it often includes removing all old and or damaged wires from a property, outdated switch and fuse boards. This is followed by installing new cabling throughout along with any updates needed to switches and sockets.

Our rewiring is carried out in two steps: First behind the scenes, replace wiring cabling back boxes and circuits as needed. Second the visible stuff: Installation of fixtures fittings, faceplates, lighting switches and sockets.

Rewiring can also be a great opportunity to add in any extra sockets or appliances you have been wanting to incorporate. Why not give us a call for a free quote and to discuss your needs and options.

How Long Does Rewiring Take?

A rewire is a large job and can take several days, even longer for much larger properties.

When quoting you for a rewire in any of our service areas like Uxbridge, Ruislip, Hillingdon and Ealing we will give you a time frame for the work.

Can I be in the property or use it while it's being rewired?

Ideally, it’s best for it to be vacant but we can work around if this is not possible.

Just bear in mind a lot of dust, noise and disruption are likely.
